One Rose of Red

One rose of red a lovely story knows
And with its petals, such a lovely hue,
Does with each quiet breeze its story show
My love, which I will always have for you.

The dew which falls upon its thorny leaves
Stands for the tears shed by my aching heart
Each time your face, this cursed world bereaves
From sight of mine. I miss that work of art.

The scent, so sweet, shed by this blessed flow'r
